Western Hunan Health Initiative
The Yale-China Association health program is excited to announce our Western Hunan Health Initiative in the Xiangxi Autonomous Region for an opportunity to be involved in health service projects and other community service and learning opportunities.
Join us on this rural health exploration and service program to work with U.S. and Chinese professionals to improve local health service delivery, training, and public health education programs. You will also learn the challenges and opportunities facing Chinese rural communities and how Yale-China and Yale University are partnering with local leadership to find solutions to emerging health challenges.
Discover through Service and Learning
You will participate in various projects in western Hunan province, especially in the health fields, and work with local professionals in these activities serving local populations. You will have the opportunity to:

• Learn about China’s health reforms and new initiatives between Yale-China, Yale University, Xiangya and local partners
• Team with Chinese students and faculty on projects serving vulnerable populations (i.e. left behind children and elderly)
• Conduct clinical and public health trainings, assessments, and screenings at local hospitals and health centers
• Learn about traditional Chinese and Miao medicine
• Explore the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site “Fenghuang Ancient Town 凤凰古城” along the Nujiang River
Faculty, students, alumni, and anyone with an interest and desire to learn more about China’s health system in rural areas are welcome. You will make new friends and network with others from various walks of life!
